Mobile crowdsourcing at Clickworker
Can you really earn money with your smartphone? Yes you can! At Clickworker you can now process small tasks with your smartphone. We have developed a crowdsourcing app that enables clickworkers to use their smartphones to work on mobile crowdsourcing-projects and to upload pictures of POIs (points of interest.) For instance a task that involves taking pictures of several stores in a shopping street.
Clickworkers can process these tasks if they own a smartphone (android or iOS) with a camera and GPS functions, and live in one of the cities in which POIs are currently being searched for. And you have to install the app.
At present, the app is only available in German, but depending on the location of the order, it could be made available worldwide. This means that our clickworkers can work while they are on the go, and our customers can obtain or verify data from anywhere.
The current project is only available for clickworkers in Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Magdeburg, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Potsdam and Cologne. To clickworkers, who can access the job, a token will be given after clicking on the available job in the workplace. Clickworkers from other contries can’t access the app at the moment. We will let you all know, as soon as new projects get available.
Organization of the project
An order package consists of 4-10 sites that are located within the same area so that several locations can be processed in succession. You will be paid per location and not per package.
Even if the store you are looking for does not exist anymore. In this case, you would simply send a picture and add a short comment.
Area of use
The app can potentially be used for many different types of orders. Here are a few examples of possible areas of use:
• Finding public locations
• Search for POIs, for instance restaurants and cinemas and take pictures of them
• Pictures of restaurants
• Pictures of menus
• Pictures of stores and buildings
• Pictures of storefronts and product placements
• Pictures of tourist attractions
• On-site verification of data such as addresses and geodata coordinates
• On-site quality and service tests
To give you a first-hand account, we conducted a short email interview with a clickworker who has already tried out the app.
CW: Was the app easy to install? And how long did it take?
Julia: Installing the app is simple and is just like installing any other app. Installation took about 5 minutes at the most. (Note from the editor, you have to wait for clearance and the package to be assigned)
CW: How many separate tasks were in the order packages?
Julia: There were approximately 4-10 locations per package.
CW: How long it did take for you to process one order.
Julia: It took about 10-20 minutes per location.
CW: Were the locations close together?
Julia: Yes. They were within a radius of approximately 2 km.
CW: How long, on average, did it take to complete all the orders in one package?
Julia: It depends on the volume of the package; about 2 hours.
CW: Were there many locations that didn’t exist anymore? If yes, were you paid for them anyway?
Julia: Yes, sometimes locations were closed down or didn’t exist anymore. But I just had to made a comment and add a picture as “evidence,” and then these locations were paid as well.
CW: Is there anything you have to keep in mind when you work with the Clickworker app?
Julia: You have to make sure that there aren’t any people in the picture. It’s better to avoid taking pictures during rush hour. And the quality of the pictures is definitely better if they are taken in the daylight.
CW: Would you work with the app again?
Julia: Definitely! Earning money while you take a walk isn’t too bad.
